The Slot Car is all about speed and drive. I relate the sensation of leaning into arcs on this board as similar to driving a car at speed. Total control and reliability on edge. I ride my current Slot Car at only 18 ¼" wide. Almost an inch narrower than a standard shortboard of my dimensions. The width at 12" from the nose and tail accommodates forgiveness in the lack of width and retains the parallel outline throughout. This board is not designed for surfing laterally, nor to be surfed in gutless waves.
I designed the side cut quad with the sole purpose of chasing acceleration through arcs. Outline is the variable I concentrated on. I believe a common misconception is that
the outline or plan shape of a surfboard is the primary variable in the stiffness or looseness of a surfboard. I believe that if a turn is being performed with speed and on
edge, the length and shape of the arc is much more dependent upon the rocker of the design. This thought led me down the path of experimenting with more and more
parallel outlines. When a surfer is pushing through a turn on rail, a curvy outline is creating resistance as it ploughs through the water. When a snowboarder performs a carve, their extremely parallel board creates very little drag. This is the benefit of going parallel.
